NFL Draft 2013: Chiefs include Eric Fisher among private workouts

The Chiefs are leaving no stone unturned as they prepare to make the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. As they’ve done with several other prospects, Kansas City held a private workout with offensive tackle Eric Fisher.

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs held a private workout with Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher as they continue to do their due diligence in advance of the NFL Draft.

Kansas City officials held the workout with Fisher on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In addition to Fisher, the Chiefs have also held private workouts with Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel, Oklahoma tackle Lane Johnson, BYU defensive end Ziggy Ansah, Oregon defensive end Dion Jordan and Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

In addition to private workouts, the Chiefs are scheduled to host West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith and Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner for visits in Kansas City. Although the Chiefs are reportedly “fascinated” by Smith, Arrowhead Pride’s Joel Thorman thinks the Chiefs interest may be a ploy to try and increase trade interest for other teams hoping to draft the top quarterback.

Many expect Kansas City to draft Joeckel with the No. 1 pick, including SB Nation’s Dan Kadar who projected Joeckel to the Chiefs in his latest mock draft. Fisher, however, is a top prospect in his own right. He’s ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle in the draft and could be a potential target at No. 1 or if the Chiefs trade down in the top 10.

A former high school basketball player, Fisher is known for his combination of size, athletic ability and tremendous footwork. Kadar described Fisher as a natural pass protector who at times can be a dominant run blocker.
