Marcus Lattimore believes he’ll play in 1st half of NFL season

Marcus Lattimore not only expects to play in the NFL next season, he expects to be recovered in time to play in the first half of the season.

JD Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore continues to work his way back from injury, and while some doubted he'd ever play football again, Lattimore said he has "no doubt" he'll play in the first half of the 2013 NFL season, according to Josh Kendall of The State.

That would be an impressive accomplishment considering the severity of the knee injury Lattimore suffered in late October. In a game against Tennessee on Oct. 27, Lattimore tore his ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL. The injury caused some to question whether he would ever play football again, let alone early next season.

Lattimore went through rehab drills for NFL scouts at South Carolina’s pro day on Wednesday and impressed those who were in attendance. He worked out for roughly 20 minutes to show NFL scouts the progress he’s made in his rehab. After the strong showing, Lattimore may have boosted his draft stock to the point where he could be in consideration as high as the second round.

Once expected to be the top running back in the draft and a likely first-round pick, Lattimore could prove to be a steal for the team who drafts him. Assuming he isn’t recovered in time to open the season on the active roster, Lattimore could be placed on the physically unable to perform list and be activated following Week 6.
