Detroit Lions safety Amari Spievey was arrested in Middletown, Conn. on Tuesday and was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct after an argument with his girlfriend over child support, according to The Oakland Press' Viktoria Sundqvist.

Detroit Lions safety Amari Spievey was arrested and charged with assault on Tuesday after an altercation with his girlfriend about child support.


According to police, Spievey’s girlfriend was also charged with risk of injury and disorderly conduct. She told police that, while the two were arguing about child support for their two-year-old daughter, he put his hands around her neck and pushed her. Police said there as a small red mark on her neck.
Bond for Spievey was set at $5,000 and both he and his girlfriend are scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Wednesday. They were also issued no-contact orders.
Spievey was the Lions’ third-round pick out of Iowa in the 2010 NFL Draft. He played in 30 of the team’s 32 games in 2010 and 2011 but only played five in 2012 after he was placed on injured reserve after suffering a concussion. In his three-year career, he has made 142 tackles and has intercepted five passes.
