Eagles trade Stanley Havili to Colts for Clifton Geathers

The Philadelphia Eagles traded fullback Stanley Havili to the Indianapolis Colts for defensive end Clifton Geathers

US PRESSWIRE

The Indianapolis Colts acquired fullback Stanley Havili from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade for defensive end Clifton Geathers on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Eagles selected Havili in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft, but he spent a year on the practice squad before making the 2012 roster as the Philadelphia fullback. Havili doesn't offer much in terms of offensive numbers, with only six carries for eight yards and a touchdown, as well as seven receptions for nine yards over 15 games with the Eagles, but he is a solid blocker. Havili ranked ninth among all fullbacks in the Pro Football Focus blocking ratings last season.

That skill should help a Colts team that often struggled with run blocking and ranked 22nd in the NFL in rushing yardage last season. The move to get rid of Havili makes sense for the Eagles, as well, as Chip Kelly doesn’t plan to keep any fullbacks on his roster.

Geathers has bounced around during his three years in the NFL. In eight games with the Colts in 2012, he totaled five tackles and one sack. Geathers is a 3-4 defense end and should help the Eagles with their transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 base defense while offering defensive line depth.
