Denver Broncos quarterback and noted NFL legend Peyton Manning spent time overseas last week, visiting American armed forces in Afghanistan.

According to NFL.com, Manning headlined a group of athletes, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Vincent Jackson and free agent wide receiver Austin Collie, who visited with troops at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan.

Manning and his former receiver, Collie, put on a demonstration for the troops, illustrating how quarterbacks and wide receivers “connect” on the football field. Manning also spoke to the troops, expressing his gratitude, and telling the troops that “we are thinking about you, and praying for y’all to return to safety.”

During the trip, Manning gave a signed football to Maj. General W. Lee Miller on behalf of the entire NFL.

Manning also visited troops located in Italy earlier last week.

Regardless of how various football fans feel about Manning in a football-related way, his decision to spend time overseas is undoubtedly classy, and helps put the sports world in perspective.
