Randy Starks made it perfectly clear on Sunday -- he wants to stay with the Miami Dolphins. Starks took to Twitter to let his fans know that he wishes to remain with Miami throughout the remainder of his careerand not "just for one more year."

Randy Starks hopes to remain with the Miami Dolphins for the remainder of his professional career -- and hopes to avoid receiving the franchise tag this offseason.

Unfortunately for Starks, he might not receive a long-term deal from the Dolphins this offseason. A report surfaced on Sunday that the Dolphins are likely to use the franchise tag on Starks, preventing the defensive tackle from hitting free agency, and forcing him to remain with the Dolphins for the 2013 season.

Starks would earn over $8 million in 2013 if the Dolphins use the franchise tag on him, hardly a shoddy payday. Still, players dislike receiving the franchise tag from teams because it doesn’t provide long-term security.
Originally drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2004, Starks signed as a free agent with the Dolphins in 2008, agreeing to a five-year deal that carried him through the 2012 season. Starks' deal with Miami in 2008 netted him over $20 million in five seasons. If the Dolphins use the franchise tag on Starks, Starks will make nearly 50% of his five-year contract in 2013.
A two-time Pro Bowler (2010, 2012), Starks would receive a fair amount of interest if he hit the free agent market. Pro Football Focus grades Starks as one of the 15 best interior defensive linemen available this offseason.
Starks will turn 30 later in 2013, and is likely looking for one last long-term deal and one last big payday. Whether or not he’ll receive that this offseason remains to be seen.
