NFL free agency: Bears reportedly interested in Jared Cook

The Chicago Bears will pursue free agent tight end Jared Cook as they look to add more receiving threats to their roster.

Tight end Jared Cook is set to become a free agent on March 12 and is expected to have many suitors, including the Chicago Bears according to Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times. It was expected that the Tennessee Titans would use their franchise tag on Cook, but they did not, meaning the Bears can pursue him when free agency begins on March 12.

Cook is the top pass-catching tight end available in free agency. He is only 25 years old and last season he caught 44 balls for 523 yards and four touchdowns over 13 games. In 2011, Cook had his best season with 49 receptions for 759 yards.

New Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer spent the last five seasons on the New Orleans Saints staff, where tight end Jimmy Graham was a key cog in the offense. Head coach Marc Trestman is known to favor a passing attack as well, and Cook would be an upgrade over current Bears tight end Kellen Davis.
