Paul Soliai injury update: Dolphins DL reportedly has minor elbow surgery

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Paul Soliai underwent arthroscopic surgery on his elbow, but isn’t expected to miss any offseason workouts.

Timothy T. Ludwig-US PRESSWIRE

Starting Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Paul Soliai recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his elbow according to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports. It is expected that Soliai will be completely recovered by the start of offseason workouts in April.

The elbow injury didn't cause Soliai to miss any time in 2012 as Soliai, 29, started all 16 games for Miami, posting 29 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two passes defended. A fourth-round pick of the Dolphins out of Utah, Soliai has been a regular starter at defensive tackle since 2010. The Dolphins used their franchise tag on Soliai in 2011 and signed him to a two-year, $12 million contract last offseason.

This offseason, Miami used their franchise tag on their other starting defensive tackle, Randy Starks. Led by Starks and Soliai, the Dolphins finished 13th against the run and limited opponents to just 4.0 yards per carry. In 2011, the Dolphins finished third in the NFL in rush defense.
