The Atlanta Falcons and running back Antone Smith agreed to a two-year extension on Tuesday. Smith, who is primarily used on special teams, was scheduled to become a restricted free agent this offseason.
Falcons sign RB Antone Smith to 2-year extension
The Atlanta Falcons signed running back and special teams player Antone Smith to a two-year contract extension.

Smith has not touched the ball in the Falcons offense since 2010, when he had the only carry of his NFL career for a loss of three yards. Smith's role with the Falcons is on special teams, where he made four tackles in 13 games last season.
Coming out of high school, Smith was the top running back recruit in the country. With the Falcons having parted with Michael Turner, they need help at the running back position, but it is unlikely they will look to Smith to play a significant role on offense.
