Broncos expected to use 2nd round tender on Britton Colquitt

To keep punter Britton Colquitt in Denver, the Broncos are expected to place a second-round tender on him.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos are expected to place a second-round tender on restricted free agent punter Britton Colquitt on March 12 according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post. The tender would set Colquitt's salary at $2.023 million for the 2013 season and make it unlikely that any other team would sign him away from the Broncos.

Colquitt had an average of 46.3 (net average of 42.1) yards per punt in 2012 and placed 27 kicks inside of the 20-yard line with only four touchbacks. The Broncos would like to sign Colquitt to a long-term contract prior to the start of the season, but with a second-round tender have all but ensured that he will be back in Denver in 2013.

The Broncos' other restricted free agents are running back Lance Ball, offensive tackle Chris Clark, and fullback Chris Gronkowski. Denver has told Gronkowski that he will not be tendered, but an "original round" tender is possible for Ball and Clark, which would place them both at a $1.323 million salary in 2013.
