Broncos could release Elvis Dumervil, according to report

Denver may part ways with their talented, and expensive, defensive end.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos may release defensive end Elvis Dumervil over salary disagreements, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. As La Canfora points out, the Broncos don't want to pay Dumervil his $12 million salary in 2013 and have been working to negotiate a lesser deal. If the two sides are unable to agree, the talented rush end could be let go.

Dumervil has been a consistent presence in opponents’ backfields since coming to the league out of Louisvile in 2006. The Miami (Fla.) native set a career high with 17 sacks in 2011, and has brought down the quarterback 63.5 times in 91 career games.

With 11 sacks in 2013, Dumervil logged the third double-digit total of his career. He added a career-high six forced fumbles and 54 overall tackles.

Denver signed Dumervil to $61.5 million extension in 2010 that was expected to keep him a Bronco through the 2015 season. That deal included $43 million in guaranteed money.
