Lions reach multi-year contract with DeAndre Levy

The Detroit Lions have agreed to a multi-year contract with linebacker DeAndre Levy, just days before Levy was set to hit the free agent market for the first time.

DeAndre Levy will remain with the Detroit Lions for the foreseeable future. The Lions and Levy have reached an agreement on a multi-year contract, according to Tim Twentyman. Details of Levy's new contract are currently unknown.

Levy played out the 2012 season on a one-year, $1.9 million dollar deal as a restricted free agent. Levy was set to hit the free agent market for the first time in his career in a week, but instead, he opted to sign a multi-year deal with the Lions.

Detroit selected Levy in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft with the No. 76 overall pick. Levy, an outside linebacker, recorded 81 tackles in 2012, appearing in 14 of Detroit's contests. Levy did not record a sack, but he did have an interception and fumble recovery to his credit.

Levy’s numbers in 2012 were down from 2011, when he recorded 109 tackles with one sack, a forced fumble and an interception.

Still, the Lions deem Levy valuable enough to prevent him from hitting the free agent market.
