Rob Bironas signs 2-year deal with Titans, according to report

The Tennessee Titans signed kicker Rob Bironas to a two-year contract on Thursday, preventing the former All-Pro kicker from hitting the free agent market.

Strong-legged kicker Rob Bironas will continue to call Nashville home. The Tennessee Titans have signed Bironas to a two-year contract, according to Jason La Canfora. The kicker will not hit the free agent market next week.

Bironas struggled in 2012, tying a career high in missed field goals with six -- a number he hadn’t reached since 2006. Bironas’ field goal percentage was the third-lowest of his career at 80.6 percent.

Still, Bironas has proven to be a capable kicker throughout his career, converting a career-high 92.3 percent of his field goals in 2010, before converting 90.6 percent in 2011.

Bironas was named to the 2007 Pro Bowl team and was a first-team All-Pro in 2007, as well. That season, Bironas converted on 35-of-39 field goal attempts (89.7 percent), and he kicked 15 field goals of at least 40 yards.

Bironas went undrafted in the 2001 NFL Draft and did not make his debut until 2005 with the Titans. He was signed by the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers between 2002-05, but never made their active rosters.
