With one year left on a three-year contract, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck expressed his desire to stay with the Tennessee Titans as the two sides continue toward reworking his current deal.

Here’s Hasselbeck in a report from John Glennon of The Tennessean on Thursday:
“Well, yeah, if we can’t come to an agreement, I guess that’s what they’d have to do [release him]. That’s just how it goes. Right now I’m working out hard, getting prepared and ready, trying to have the best year I can. Again, I’m really hopeful that it’s here, but I understand that some things are more out of your control.”
As Jake Locker remains the team's likely starter of the future, Hasselbeck presumably will be asked to take up a lesser slice of the Titans' salary cap pie. Right now he would, according to Glennon's report, cost Tennessee $7.5 million against the cap for the 2013 season.

Hasselbeck remains valuable, however, starting in five contests and appearing in eight overall for the Titans in 2012 as Locker was sidelined with injuries. Compiling 1,367 yards through the air, Hasselbeck completed 62.4 percent of his 221 throws along with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
The 14-year veteran appears willing to stay in Tennessee no matter what. From the report:
“I’m really wanting to be part of something special, part of something good, something I can be proud of and things like that will far outweigh salary or whatever.”
Hasselbeck has been with the Titans since 2011.
