Seahawks trade Matt Flynn to Raiders for 2 draft picks, according to report

The Oakland Raiders reportedly acquired Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks on Monday in exchange for two draft picks.

The Oakland Raiders have traded two draft choices to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for quarterback Matt Flynn, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. Oakland is expected to complete a Carson Palmer trade on Monday as well, per Glazer.

Seattle receives a fifth-round 2014 pick and a 2015 conditional pick from Oakland in exchange for Flynn, according to the Seahawks’ official website.

Flynn was signed to a three-year, $19.5 million contract last offseason by Seattle. Flynn was expected to be Seattle's starting quarterback last season, but Russell Wilson earned the starting job after an impressive training camp, and led the Seahawks to the playoffs -- and nearly to the NFC Championship game.

Now in Oakland, Flynn will face competition from Terrelle Pryor and Matt Leinart but is once again expected to be the starting quarterback. Flynn has just two career starts -- starting for the Packers in 2010 against the New England Patriots and again in 2011 against the Detroit Lions.

Through his first five seasons, Flynn has attempted just 141 passes, completing 87 (61.7 percent) for 1,083 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Entering his age-28 season, Flynn will now be forced to learn his third different offense in as many seasons.

Oakland decided to move on from Carson Palmer after Palmer refused to restructure his contract. Palmer was acquired by Oakland during the 2011 season for first and second-round draft picks and simply failed to live up to expectations in Oakland. As the Raiders’ starting quarterback, Palmer had a paltry 8-16 record, while throwing 35 touchdowns against 30 interceptions.

Whether or not Flynn proves to be a franchise quarterback remains to be seen, but he’ll be given the chance for a team that desperately needs a quarterback to run its offense.
