The Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Colt McCoy to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

Cleveland will receive a fifth and seventh-round pick for McCoy and Cleveland’s sixth-round pick, according to Mary Kay Cabot.
Once the Browns' starting quarterback, McCoy fell out of favor with Cleveland's front office. McCoy started 21 games for the Browns between 2010-11, but failed to establish himself as the Browns' long-term quarterback. The Browns drafted Brandon Weeden in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, replacing McCoy as Cleveland's starting quarterback.
McCoy replaces Alex Smith for the 49ers, and offers a similar skillset for Jim Harbaugh. Like Smith, McCoy is an accurate passer, but doesn’t have a big arm. During his three-year career, McCoy has completed 58.3 percent of his passes, while throwing 21 touchdowns and 20 interceptions -- good for a passer rating of 74.8.
In comparison, Smith completed 50.9 and 58.1 percent of his passes through his first two seasons with the 49ers, and has a career completion percentage of 59.3, with a career passer rating of 79.1.
San Francisco traded Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for two draft picks -- including a 2013 second-round selection.
McCoy will compete for San Francisco's backup duties, behind Colin Kaepernick.
