2013 NFL Draft buzz: Possible trades, Tavon Austin, Manti Te’o, top pick set and more

The 2013 NFL Draft is finally upon us. Here’s what has happened over the last few hours in case you’re now just tuning in.

The 2013 NFL Draft is less than an hour away as players and fans file into Radio City Music Hall. There hasn't been much of a calm before the big storm, though, as rumors have been flying over the last few hours. The Chiefs have reportedly made their decision with the No. 1 overall pick, meanwhile Tavon Austin is reportedly going to be selected with a top-10 pick and Manti Te'o may be playing football in the Windy City.

Here’s what you may have missed.

The Minnesota Vikings are looking to select a linebacker and a wide receiver in the first round of Thursday night's draft with their two first-round picks. They will go on the clock at No. 23 and then again at No. 25 and will be looking to give quarterback Christian Ponder another target and to beef up their front seven with a new leader.

Former Ravens great Ray Lewis doubts his old team is going to be able to repeat its Super Bowl win in 2013. The future Hall of Fame linebacker believes his old team lost too many players to go deep into the playoffs again.

Former West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin is not only the best wide receiver in this year's draft class, but according to Adam Schefter, he'll be a top-10 pick on Thursday night. He's considered one of the most dynamic athletes in this year's draft class and both the Bills and the Jets are reportedly interested.

According to reports, the Atlanta Falcons have their eye on possibly trading up for former Notre Date tight end Tyler Eifert or former LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo. This wouldn't be the first time they moved up to get their player as they traded away picks to the Browns to move up in the 2011 draft to select wide receiver Julio Jones.

The San Diego Chargers signed linebacker D.J. Smith on Thursday after he was released by the Packers. Smith suffered an injury in October, but filled in nicely for Desmond Bishop before he was lost for the season.

Adam Schefter believes that on Thursday night, a guard will be selected with a top-10 pick for the first time since 1997. Chance Warmack and Jonathan Cooper are considered the top two guards in this year’s draft class.

A deal in which the Chiefs will send offensive lineman Branden Albert to the Dolphins is reportedly on hold so the teams can see how the first round of the draft plays out. The deal could reportedly be completed Friday morning before the second and third round begin.

The Lions could possibly trade up to the third spot in the draft, swapping picks with the Raiders, in order to get their hands on Lane Johnson, who is considered the third best offensive tackle in the draft. Johnson is considered one of the most athletic offensive lineman in this year's draft class and could help shore up the Lions' offensive line.
