If the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns are to make a trade involving wide receiver Davone Bess, they better do so soon, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the two teams are running out of time to make a deal happen that would send the receiver to Cleveland.

With “mid-round picks” being discussed as the compensation for Miami, the Dolphins and Browns would likely have to make a trade happen tonight before 7 p.m. ET so that Bess could catch the last flight to Cleveland and complete a physical that would allow the trade to be finalized and a swap of picks to happen. Any later and the Browns wouldn’t be able to receive the 2013 NFL Draft picks from the Dolphins in time.
As the deadline draws nearer, Zach Miller of Dawgs By Nature offered some perspective on what a trade could mean for the Browns, who recently allowed the contract of Josh Cribbs to expire, sending the return specialist to free agency:
It’s fairly easy to understand why the Browns may be interested in a WR like Bess. The Browns have a good core of young WR, but lack a veteran presence, especially with Josh Cribbs gone. Davone Bess may have a steadying impact on this young WR core. Then again, they could also be trading a useful mid-round pick on a guy that’s nothing overwhelming.
Bess, 27, was an undrafted free agent in 2008, but made an instant impact as a returner and receiver in his rookie season. In five seasons with the Dolphins, he has accumulated 321 receptions for 3,447 yards and 12 touchdowns with at least 50 catches in each season.
The Browns saw the emergence of Josh Gordon in 2012, as the rookie finished the year with 805 yards receiving, followed by Greg Little with 647 yards receiving. The team allowed Mohamed Massaquoi to leave in free agency with Cribbs.
