NFL Draft 2013: Jets could take Eddie Lacy if they pass on QB

The Jets could look to replenish their backfield should they pass up on a quarterback in the second round of the draft.

The Jets' biggest need in the draft is arguably a new quarterback. However, if they are to pass up on drafting a new signal caller in the second round, they could select former Alabama running back Eddie Lacy with the No. 39, according to Rich Cimini.

The Jets need to upgrade from Mark Sanchez and the only quarterback selected in the first round was Florida State's EJ Manuel. That leaves every other quarterback in this year's draft class available, including West Virginia's Geno Smith, who was considered the best overall at the position.

If they choose to ignore quarterback and opt for a running back, Eddie Lacy leads the pack. Since the Jets lost Shonn Greene to the Tennessee titans in free agency, they need to fill out their backfield. Lacy, like Greene, is a big back capable of running between the tackles. However, unlike Greene, he has enough speed to be considered a home run threat and could give the Jets a big boost in the run game. Any boost in the run game would in turn boost the quarterback play.

The Jets have eight picks to wait for their turn in the second round. In front of them are the Jaguars, who could be looking for a new quarterback, and the Bengals, who may want a shot at Lacy.
