NFL Draft Results 2013: Chiefs, Titans close out 3rd round

The Chiefs and Titans rounded out Day 2 of the 2013 NFL Draft with the last two picks of the third round.

Chris Graythen

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Arkansas running back Knile Davis with the No. 96 overall pick, and the Tennessee Titans selected Missouri linebacker Zaviar Gooden at No. 97. Both selections were compensatory picks and they were the last two picks of the third round.

Davis is a very talented player, but injuries have taken their toll on the running back. After a promising sophomore season that saw him finish second in the SEC in rushing with 1,322 yards, injuries kept Davis sidelined for big chunks of the next two seasons with injuries before declaring early for the NFL Draft. In 2011, he missed the entire season with a broken left ankle and last season he missed two games and fell to No. 2 on the depth chart as he played through other knocks. Toss in the injuries that cost him much of his junior and senior years of high school and you have a running back with serious injury concerns.

Injuries also damaged Gooden’s draft stock in 2012, but he went to the NFL Combine and put up huge numbers, seemingly helping himself a ton. He had 27 reps on the bench press, and his 4.47 40-yard dash was the fastest among all linebackers in Indianapolis. He also had the best cone drill (6.71 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle (4.18 seconds) of all linebackers. He had 61 tackles in 10 games for the Tigers as a senior.
