Round four has wrapped up with the Atlanta Falcons' compensatory selection of Levine Toilolo at No. 133 overall, and round five has begun with a slew of picks. Some big names went in round four, including Matt Barkley, Johnathan Franklin and Tyler Wilson. There are still some solid players available that have slipped into the fifth, but it's likely those guys will go very fast as the pace picks up. Here's a rundown of the last several selections.
NFL Draft results: Denard Robinson, Jesse Williams off the board in 5th round
Denard Robinson is now off the board to the Jacksonville Jaguars, while defensive tackle Jesse Williams stops his skid as he goes to the Seattle Sehawks.
133, Atlanta Falcons: Levine Toilolo, TE, Stanford
The Falcons have given Tony Gonzalez a career resurgence, but they’ll need some help at the position sooner rather than later. Toilolo has gone under the radar behind bigger name tight ends at Stanford, but he’s regarded as having a high ceiling and might be able to make a dent with the Falcons in the coming years. Here’s a little more on Toilolo:
Toilolo was overshadowed by the star tight ends at Stanford, behind Cody Fleener and Zach Ertz on the depth chart the last two years, but still has an NFL skill set. Toilolo beat out Fleener for the starting job in 2010, but suffered a knee injury in the first game of the season that kept him out the rest of the year. He has served as a backup since his return from injury, finishing the 2012 season with 24 receptions for 393 yards and four touchdowns.
134, Kansas City Chiefs: Sanders Commings, CB, Georgia
The Chiefs are rebuilding, and with new head coach Andy Reid, they’re hoping that rebuilding will happen quickly. The selection of Sanders Commings doesn’t fill a particular need, but Commings was considered an early third-round pick by many experts and a best player available strategy makes sense for the Chiefs at this point in the draft. Commings is a physical, talented cornerback whose level of play was overshadowed by some of his teammates at Georgia. Some think that he may be one of the more underrated defensive back prospects in this draft, but he does come with some character concerns, as he was arrested last February for assaulting his girlfriend. Commings was sentenced to probation and counseling as a result.
135, Jacksonville Jaguars, Denard Robinson, RB, Michigan
Robinson played quarterback with the Michigan Wolverines, but he moved around and did an awful lot for them. He ran the ball a lot, he caught passes, returned a kick or two and is considered one of the best athletes in the draft. He’s incredibly raw as a wide receiver with almost no top-flight route running ability, but the Jags could definitely use him somewhere, and they got him in the fifth round here. They have him listed as a running back, for what that’s worth.
136, Philadelphia Eagles: Earl Wolff, SS, N.C. State
The Eagles have a wreck in the secondary, with huge needs at cornerback and safety. Wolff is just one step in rectifying the situation. While fifth-round picks are sure-things for starting right away, Wolff has the skillset required and due to the significant need here for Philadelphia, Wolff might find himself getting some serious playing time if he can develop. The former All-ACC safety may be little more than a special teams standout, but with his tackling ability it might be enough to see him excel in the NFL. Wolff lacks the quick twitch necessary to cover deep threat receivers, but has a high football IQ, and understands his role inside a defense. With cornerback David Amerson pushing for turnovers it left Wolff on an island far too often -- but he still managed to find a way to contribute.
If a team hopes Wolff can play as an every-down defensive back, he'll need to learn to fight through blocks, and make plays in the backfield. As it stands his less-than-ideal size, paired with some agility issues mean that he's a project.
137, Seattle Seahawks: Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama
Williams is considered one of the most talented interior defensive linemen in the draft, but he fell far due to injury concerns. Once considered a possible first-round pick, the Seahawks are getting some very solid value in Williams at this point. If his knee is ready to go, he'll insert nicely into an already strong defensive line rotation that includes two free agent acquisitions in Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett.
