NFL Draft results: Falcons, Redskins make picks, Vikings take a punter

The Minnesota Vikings have selected the first punter of the draft, taking Jeff Locke in the fifth round. The Falcons, Redskins, Bengals and 49ers also made picks.

The fifth round is in full swing at the 2013 NFL Draft, and we're nearing the end of the round. We've got picks 153-157 to look through, and you'll find those below. There are plenty of big name players going at this point in the draft, with some notables thus far in round five including Joseph Randle, Stepfan Taylor and Denard Robinson earlier in the round.

Below, a look at the most recent five picks and where they’re going:

153, Atlanta Falcons: Stansly Maponga, DE, TCU

The Falcons traded a seventh-round pick to move into this spot to draft Maponga, an under-the-radar defensive end who had some solid production with the Horned Frogs. His biggest issue has been inconsistency in his game, despite being a very strong pass rusher at times. It will be interesting to see if he’s able to compete for some playing time early on. Here’s some more on Maponga:

Maponga is a powerful pass rusher that uses his long arms to separate himself from offensive lineman and he has a great spin move. However, he has been inconsistent throughout his college career and he lacks ideal height for the position. If he develops into a more consistent player, he could be a solid pass rusher at the next level.

154, Washington Redskins: Chris Thompson, RB, Florida St.

Washington doesn't have a big need at the running back position, with Alfred Morris taking the league by storm with 1,613 yards in his rookie season, but Thompson provides valuable depth with the potential to take over the primary backup spot behind Morris, which is wide open at this point.

155, Minnesota Vikings: Jeff Locke, P, UCLA

The Vikings drafted kicker Blair Walsh last season and it paid off big time, as the kicker made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. Now, they're the first to take a specialist of that sort in this draft with the selection of Locke. Punter wasn't considered a huge need for the Vikings, as they already have Chris Kluwe, but it looks like there will be some competition now.

156, Cincinnati Bengals: Tanner Hawkinson, OT, Kansas

Offensive tackle was a huge need for the Cincinnati Bengals heading into the draft, but the team managed to re-sign right tackle Andre Smith, making the need a little less drastic. Hawkinson is a depth guy from the get-go, though he does possess a high level skillset to potentially be the right tackle of the future if the Bengals need it.

157, San Francisco 49ers: Quinton Dial, DE, Alabama

The San Francisco 49ers have already added Cornellius Carradine and Corey Lemonier, and now defensive line coach Jim Tomsula has added another guy he likes in Quinton Dial. In their 3-4 defense, Dial will likely try and get some backup reps behind Ray McDonald. He's more of a space-eater and tackling machine, and that's what the 49ers need after getting some strong pass rushers earlier on.
