The Dallas Cowboys were one of 11 teams interested in Arizona State linebacker Brandon Magee and made sure they secured him by giving him $70,000 in guaranteed money, according to Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News. While that number pails in comparison to the millions that will go to the first-round selections, it's more guaranteed money than any seventh-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft received.

At 5’11, 223 pounds, Magee lacks ideal size, but was still a productive player for the Sun Devils in 2012. He’s also a multi-talented athlete, who was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
In a profile before the 2013 NFL Draft, House of Sparky’s Brad Denny raved about Magee’s pro potential:
He's a very solid tackler, and will make the stop in the open field. He's very good in pass coverage, but can also use that quickness to be an effective pass rusher. Magee's leadership ability is off the charts, and is an excellent locker room presence and figure in the community.
These attributes apparently made Magee a coveted free agent after he went unselected through seven rounds. Perhaps he wouldn’t have been unselected had the Cowboys been the owners of a seventh-round pick, but the road to the starting lineup isn’t an impossible one for an undrafted free agent.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo wasn't selected in the 2003 NFL Draft, while Magee's former-teammate Vontaze Burfict started at linebacker for the Bengals as a rookie after going unselected in the 2012 NFL Draft.
