Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Childs has made progress since injuring both knees last season, but he's still not ready to put a date on his return to the football field, per ESPN's Tom Pelissero.
Greg Childs injury: Vikings WR still uncertain of return date
Vikings wide receiver Greg Childs still isn’t quite sure when he’ll be able to return to the field.

Childs tore the patellar tendons in both knees on Aug. 4 when he dove for a pass and crashed down on the turf. He underwent surgery and was on crutches before he could start his rehabilitation. He was able to begin running again a couple months ago.
“I’m doing a lot of cutting, some jumping, some sprinting,” Childs said afterwards. “All the necessary things I need to be doing, I’m doing now.”
Childs, selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft out of Arkansas, said on Wednesday that he isn’t close to being back to 100 percent. He did, however, state that there are several routes he’s able to run just nine months after his injury:
“I still do my cuts and my runs full speed. There is no change in the way I run or the way I play. My routes are still the same,” Childs said.
“I’m still cutting the same way I cut -- because it doesn’t make sense to go out there and kind of just be cautious about it, because you ain’t going to play your game right. You’ve just got to go out there, just do your rehab, work hard, get everything strengthened up, let stuff heal and then you can go out there and play 100 percent.”
Childs suffered the same injury in 2010 to his right knee and he said that the Vikings’ team doctor has taken a different approach to his rehabilitation than was taken at Arkansas. Childs said that his knee will be tightened and strengthened and he’s not worried about a third injury. He did say, though, that he will not come back to the team until he’s fully healthy because coming back at 80 or 90 percent wouldn’t help the offense.
Childs feels that his rehab is coming along at a quicker pace than it did in 2010, but he’s still not ready to say whether or not he’ll be back for training camp this summer:
“I’m just going to walk out there like I always do, you know what I’m saying?” Childs said. “Walk out there talking to all my teammates, smiling, and putting in work. Just tell them, like, this is what happens when you put in the work and just stay focused.”
The Vikings added wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson in the first round of the 2013 draft as well as former Packers receiver Greg Jennings in free agency.
