Kyle Williams injury: Bills DT had right Achilles surgery

Another offseason, another Achilles surgery for Kyle Williams. Like last year, he’s expected to be ready for the regular season.

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams had surgery on his right Achilles tendon, leaving him unable to participate in offseason activities, the team announced. The surgery was to repair a frayed tendon, not a torn one, and the timeline given by the team indicates that he would be ready well in time for the 2013 season.

The surgery took place in mid-February and has an estimated five-month recovery time. Williams had a similar procedure on his left foot in the 2012 offseason. His timely return would mean a great deal to the team. As Bills blog Buffalo Rumblings points out, Williams is essential to Buffalo’s defensive line. “Kyle Williams is still the team’s best player,” they say, “by a considerable margin.”

Williams had five sacks in 2012, third on the team behind Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus. He was named to the 2012 Pro Bowl roster and was awarded the 2012 Ed Block Courage Foundation Award, an award given to players who exemplify commitments to the principles of courage and sportsmanship.
