LeSean McCoy injury: Eagles RB leaves practice with knee issue

LeSean McCoy hurt his knee in a workout Monday, forcing him to the sidelines as the team tries to learn Chip Kelly’s offense. The injury didn’t seem to be very serious to those in attendance.

LeSean McCoy put some worry into those attending the Philadelphia Eagles' first in a new set of offseason workouts, leaving practice for the day after injuring his knee.

McCoy began the day working with the rest of the team, but was seen getting treatment for the knee and getting stretched out later, per Tim McManus of Philly Mag. It’s tough to gauge whether the injury was something for Eagles fans to be genuinely scared about or just something that wasn’t worth reinjuring in one of the first OTAs of the season. But reporters at the practice didn’t seem to indicate that the injury was overly serious.

What is clear is that McCoy is likely essential to the Eagles' success this season. Shady didn't have his best season in 2012, rushing for 840 yards and just two touchdowns. But the 2011 All-Pro had great things to say about Kelly's up-tempo offense when first presented with the idea of being let loose under a guy touted as an offensive mastermind. McCoy will be backed up by Bryce Brown and Felix Jones, but neither is as dependable or explosive as McCoy, Brown showing a knack for fumbling the ball as a rookie in 2012 and Jones never distinguishing himself in five years with Dallas.
