A holdout for Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones looks as though it is over before it ever really began, as the defensive back will participate in Tuesday's organized team activity after sitting out on Monday, according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald. Jones is entering the final season of his rookie contract and is due to receive $1.3 million in 2013.

Jones was absent from the Dolphins’ facility on Monday as he hopes for a new contract.

Jones intended to holdout from OTAs for longer, but changed his mind on Monday, per Salguero:
”But the player changed his mind after his agent Joel Segal and Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland spoke several times late into Monday evening, the source said. Details of the conversation are not known, but according to the Jones family source, Ireland gave Segal some assurance the Dolphins would open discussions with Jones on a contract extension “eventually” if the player showed up.”
Jones, 25, was a fifth-round selection in the 2010 NFL Draft and played in a reserve role as a rookie. In 2011 he earned a starting role before leading the team in interceptions in 2012 with four.
The Dolphins have more than one contract dispute to deal with, as defensive tackle Randy Starks is expected to skip much of the offseason workout program as he looks for a new contract after he was given the franchise tag. Kevin Nogle of The Phinsider talked about Jones' absence on Monday:
“While Jones missing tomorrow’s first day of OTAs is pure speculation at this point, the Dolphins, according to Salguero, are at least confused by the move today. The team spent the morning trying to track down their starting safety, who, up until today, had been one of the highest attending members of the Dolphins’ offseason workout program.”
In 29 career starts, Jones has 130 tackles, six interceptions and 15 passes defended in the Dolphins secondary. The team finished 2012 with the sixth-fewest touchdown passes allowed.
