Kyle Love criticizes Patriots over release, player treatment

It has been speculated that Love’s release from the Patriots was due to a diabetes diagnosis.

Stew Milne-US PRESSWIRE

It isn't confirmed that the reason for defensive tackle Kyle Love's release from the New England Patriots was due to a Type-2 diabetes diagnosis, as speculated, but Love certainly believes so. On Monday, the new Jaguars lineman spoke to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union and had some choice words for his former team.

And no, he wasn’t surprised he was released by the Patriots after his diagnosis.

“That’s how they run their business up there; veteran guys who have been there for years and put in a lot of work get treated like rookies,” he said.

Although many signs point to his diagnosis as the reason for the release, and Love has indicated that he thinks that is the reason, Alfie Crow of Big Cat Country isn’t so sure:

The timing of Love’s release with his diabetes diagnosis is curious, but Love’s release appears to be more from a logjam of players at the position and the Patriots desire to play more 4-3 fronts on defense than anything else.

Love, 26, now joins a Jacksonville defense that is in the midst of a rebuild after finishing the 2012 season with a 2-14 and the third-most yards allowed, defensively. With new head coach Gus Bradley at the helm, the team will transition to a hybrid defense that could be a good fit for a two-gap run defender like Love.

In three seasons with the Patriots, Love made 26 starts and recorded 5.5 sacks and 68 tackles.
