Roman Harper contract: Saints S reportedly signs extension

The veteran defensive back is now reportedly inked with the Saints through 2015.

The New Orleans Saints signed safety Roman Harper to a reworked contract extension through 2015, according to reports from NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport and Larry Holder of The Times-Picayune on Friday.

As Holder mentions in the above report and Rapoport later confirms, Harper was slated to make $5.25 million in 2013. His extension with the Saints gives him $4 million in guaranteed dollars for the upcoming season.

By adding another season (2015) to Harper’s contract, Rapoport notes that New Orleans likely gave themselves a bit of salary cap relief. Their $145.5 million going towards the 2014 cap is among the highest amount in the league right now.

Harper, 30, was drafted in 2006 by the Saints and has been in their defensive backfield ever since. Playing in 16 games in 2012, Harper registered 115 combined tackles, 11 passes defensed and two interceptions for the Saints. He has played in all but one regular season game for New Orleans over the last four seasons.
