Mike Goodson will join Jets practice next week, according to report

Amid legal troubles, Goodson is reportedly going to join the Jets on the practice field next week.

New York Jets running back Mike Goodson, after pleading not guilty to drug and weapons charges earlier this week, will join his teammates for organized team activities next week, according to sources in a report from Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com on Friday.

Goodson was not present at the team’s OTAs last week. As Cimini writes, while OTAs are voluntary and Goodson could have participated this week, both the team and player decided to wait until the situation settled down before Goodson’s return.

Wednesday, he was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a loaded handgun, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hollow point ammunition, all stemming from his arrest in the early morning of May 17 where he and another man were found asleep in a stopped SUV in New Jersey.

Goodson was heavily intoxicated when police found him, so they transported him to a local hospital. It was then that authorities allegedly found him in possession of marijuana, along with the loaded handgun in the vehicle. If found guilty of the gun charges alone, Goodson could be facing 10 years in prison. As Cimini also notes, potential NFL punishment remains unknown.

Goodson alleged through his lawyer this week that he was not aware of the presence of either the gun or marijuana in the vehicle. He was signed by the Jets this offseason to a three-year deal.
