Long-time Carolina Panthers kicker John Kasay is expected to sign a one-day contract with the team and officially retire as a member of the Panthers on Tuesday, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. Kasay will retire as the team's all-time leader in scoring by a wide margin.

Kasay, 43, was a fourth-round selection in the 1991 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks and played four seasons with the team before leaving to join the Carolina Panthers in 1995, the team's first season in the NFL. He stayed with the team for 16 years, playing in 15 seasons (he missed the 2000 season due to a broken kneecap), before he was finally released by the team in 2011.
After one season with the New Orleans Saints in 2011, Kasay was out of football in 2012, although he was hired as the athletic director for Charlotte Christian School in April, according to WBT-AM.
Kasay racked up 221 games played and 1,482 points with the Panthers, 1,052 more than wide receiver Steve Smith, who is second on the franchise leaderboard in both games played and scoring. He also retires with the NFL’s eighth-most points scored all-time.
