Brad Smith could be released by Bills, per report

Organized Team Activities, or OTAs, are the first chance coaches get to see their team on the field heading into the new season. It's also the first chance to make impressions about which players to keep and which players to cut. For the Bills, one of the players that could be on the outside looking in is wide receiver Brad Smith, according to WGR 550's Joe Buscaglia.

Since Doug Marrone was hired, the Bills have drafted two receivers in the top three rounds, signed a highly touted undrafted free agent and we've heard the front office boast about both Stevie Johnson and Marcus Easley. The man that hasn't been factored in at this point? Brad Smith. The Wildcat extraordinaire may not have a place on this roster with a new offense, a new bundle of young receivers that require time on the field and an incredibly high salary for someone that likely won't contribute a whole lot in 2013. He is firmly atop the list.

Smith has two years left on his contract and is due to be paid $3.8 million in 2013 and $4 million in 2014. With the current crop of young receivers, it may be hard for the Bills to justify paying close to $8 million for a receiver who may not get a ton of playing time over the next two years. Even his wildcat quarterback status may take a hit with the selection of EJ Manuel, a more mobile quarterback than Ryan Fitzpatrick was or Kevin Kolb is.

Some other Bills players that Buscaglia put on the list include right tackle Erik Pears, kicker Rian Lindell, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and defensive end Mark Anderson.
