Randy Starks will attend Dolphins minicamp

Starks missed voluntary workouts and OTAs, but plans on attending mandatory minicamp.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Randy Starks missed voluntary workouts and organized team activities earlier in the offseason, but plans on re-joining the team when mandatory mini-camp begins on Tuesday, according to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald.

Starks, 29, received the franchise tag from the Dolphins and missed earlier offseason activities in protest of the one-year, $8.45 million deal that came with it. Had Starks missed the mandatory minicamp, he would’ve been fined $66,000, which is likely the biggest motivator for the lineman’s return to the team.

A third-round selection of the Tennessee Titans in the 2004 NFL Draft, Starks wasn't a full-time starter early in his career, but managed to earn a five-year, $20.05 million deal from the Dolphins in free agency in 2008. The deal paid off, as Starks has been the starter in each of the last four seasons and earned trips to the Pro Bowl in 2010 and 2012.

In five seasons with the Dolphins, Starks has tallied 22 sacks and four interceptions, helping to lead the way for a defense that finished with the seventh-fewest points allowed in 2012.
