Miles Austin injury: Cowboys WR rests hamstrings during minicamp

Miles Austin has sat out a few offseason practices to keep healthy before training camp.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin struggled with hamstring injuries in each of the last two seasons, so the team is looking to do whatever it can to avoid making it three consecutive years, including giving Austin days off during minicamp, according to Carlos Mendez of the Dallas Star-Telegram.

Austin, 28, was given a day off during the three-day mandatory minicamp and sat out a few of the voluntary practice sessions before that. The two-time Pro Bowl receiver told Mendez that he believes the rest has helped some, but he would’ve been on the practice field if the choice was left to him:

“I want to go,” he said. “When coach says you can’t, you just kind of have to sit there and not go. But it’s tough for me, sometimes, just to watch the other guys going and not be out there, especially in this heat and knowing how it is to play wideout. You’re out there running. You get tired, and you want at least a few more bodies in there to take some of that load off.”

In 2012, Austin managed to play in all 16 games for the Cowboys, but missed some time in training camp with hamstring issues and left a couple games early due to hip and ankle injuries. He missed six games in 2011 with hamstring problems.

Austin has compiled 277 receptions for 4,237 yards and 34 touchdowns in seven seasons with the Cowboys.
