2013 NFL Rookie Symposium schedule, events and more

The league has announced and detailed the latest NFL Rookie Symposium, taking place from June 23rd to June 29th.

The NFL will host its 16th Rookie Symposium beginning on June 23. It’s a four-day event held at the Bertram Hotel in Aurora, Ohio, and will serve as an introduction to “life in the NFL prior to rookies reporting to training camps,” according to a press release from the league.

Each year, the theme has always been centered on handling the success (and money) that comes with playing in the NFL. We often hear about players losing out on all their money shortly after ending their careers, and many players have put their foot in their mouths in the media as well.

According to the league, the four core teaching principles of the Rookie Symposium are “NFL History, Total Wellness, Experience and Professionalism.” There are presentations, videos and workshops on, among other things, decision making, mental health, substance abuse and non-discrimination.

There will be several guest speakers at the presentation, including past and former players. Some current players include San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis and Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Adam Jones. Former players include Brian Dawkins, Dhani Jones, Chad Pennington and others.

AFC rookies are scheduled for June 23-26. NFC rookies will attend 26-29. There will be PLAY 60 youth football clinics which the rookies will participate in at the Cleveland Browns Training and Administrative complex on June 25 (AFC rookies) and June 28 (NFC rookies).
