No charges for Maurice Jones-Drew in assault case

Jones-Drew was accused of knocking out a security guard at a Jacksonville-area restaurant in May.

USA TODAY Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew will not face charges for his alleged involvement in an incident that occurred at Conch House restaurant in St. Augustine, Fla., in May, according to a report from Vic Micolucci of WJXT in Jacksonville.

Jones-Drew, 28, was accused of knocking out a security guard at the restaurant after his friend was put in a headlock. While the security guard claimed to have video evidence of the incident, Jones-Drew’s agent claimed that his client had no involvement and left the premises when the altercation began.

The case was forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for further investigation, but no charges were filed despite initial reports of misdemeanor battery charges for the Jaguars running back.

Jones-Drew played in just six games for the Jaguars in 2012 before a Lisfranc injury cost him the last 10 games of the season and eventually required surgery to repair. He still managed to lead the team in rushing with 414 yards on the ground.
