NFL news roundup: Joe Lefeged arrested, Aaron Hernandez’s money voided

Joe Lefeged, a defensive back for the Colts, was arrested on Friday night following a vehicle pursuit.

Indianapolis Colts defensive back and special teams player Joe Lefeged was arrested Friday night on multiple gun charges, according to The Indianapolis Star. Lefeged, 25, fled police during a traffic stop in Washington D.C.. Upon the end of the pursuit, Lefeged was arrested and a handgun was found in his vehicle, per the police report.

Patriots void money for Hernandez

The New England Patriots are unlikely to be able to void the entire contract owed to former tight end Aaron Hernandez following his arrest, but they managed to void the remaining guaranteed money heading his way. While he's still due a $3.25 million signing bonus, the Patriots managed to drop his cap hit to $2.55 million in 2013 and $7.5 million in 2014.

Charles calls Alex Smith “Super Bowl quarterback”

After a 2-14 season in 2012, Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is feeling better about the team's quarterback situation in 2013. He spoke very highly of Alex Smith to NFL.com, saying that Smith has a "great arm" and that he is a "Super Bowl quarterback." The Chiefs traded away their second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft to acquire Smith, along with a second-day pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Bryce Brown’s dogs seized, fighting suspected

Several dogs were removed from a facility in Wisconsin, including a pit bull and seven puppies that belong to Philadelphia Eagles running back Bryce Brown, after authorities suspected mistreatment and possible dog fighting. Brown is not believed to be involved, and has been reunited with his dog, Eilis. Brown sent the dog to the facility for breeding purposes. The kennel's owner, Joseph A. Sudbrink, was arrested and charged with mistreating animals.

Lattimore won’t participate in training camp

San Francisco 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore did some work during organized team activities, but will not participate in the training camp. He appeared on NFL Network's NFL Total Access and said that he hopes to be able to practice by mid-season. Lattimore suffered a devastating knee injury during his final season with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
