Jahvid Best's career with the Detroit Lions has come to a bittersweet end, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon. The former first-round pick missed all of last season due to a concussion.

Detroit drafted the former California Golden Bear with the 30th pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, expecting to get the dynamic playmaker that was known for highlights during his college career. That turned out to be the case for the Lions, but only briefly as concussion issues sidelined his career before it was really able to take off.
Best played just 22 games during his three-year career with the Lions, amassing 945 rushing yards and 774 receiving yards en route to nine total touchdowns. The running back ran into injury issues before he was able to make too much of a mark on Detroit, though he said in the team’s press release that he’ll “always be a Lion”:
“I want to thank the Detroit Lions organization for drafting me and giving me an opportunity to fulfill my dream and play in the National Football League,” Best said. “My time as a member of the Lions was a very special time in my life. My teammates, the members of the organization, the Lions fans and the people of Detroit will hold a special place in my heart. I’ll always be a Lion.”
Those comments almost make it seem as though Best is considering retirement, but there was no mention of that in the press release so he may just always remain a lion -- regardless of whatever NFL team he ends up on next.
