Jason Kelce injury: Eagles center cleared for training camp

Kelce suffered ACL and MCL tears in a Week 2 game against the Ravens in 2012.

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce told Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer that he's cleared to fully participate in training camp after suffering a season-ending right knee injury in 2012.

Kelce, 25, had surgery to repair MCL and ACL tears in his right knee after tearing both in a Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens. When Kelce returns to the field, he plans on wearing braces on both knees, something he did during his time at the University of Cincinnati.

Had Kelce been wearing braces on his knees, he told Berman that believes the injury could have been avoided, but he stopped wearing them when he got to the NFL because it’s a less common practice.

“That was kind of the culture,” Kelce said. “I just did what everyone else was doing as a young guy. And there’s no guarantee that if you have the brace on you’re not going to tear it, but I can tell you this: I do not want to go through another ACL reconstruction, so I’m going to wear both braces this year.”

A sixth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Kelce was the starter for the Eagles in all 16 games as a rookie, but only appeared in two games in 2012 before heading to injured reserve.
