Josh Gordon injury: Browns WR out with patellar tendinitis

Gordon’s injury isn’t considered serious, but could cause him to miss some valuable practice reps.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was pulled from the practice field early on Monday as he deals with patellar tendinitis in his knee, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The injury isn’t considered too serious, as Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski stressed that it’s something the second-year receiver has been dealing with and wasn’t an injury sustained during the practice session on Monday. Chudzinski told Cabot that he isn’t yet sure if Gordon will undergo an MRI on Monday on his knee:

“We will see about that,” said Chudzinski. “It doesn’t look to be too serious, but I will let you know (Wednesday) on that. Obviously, as far as reps, we want our guys to get as many reps as possible, especially our young guys.”

Gordon, 22, was a second-round selection in the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft, making him the first player taken in the Supplemental Draft since 2005 and the highest since Tony Hollings was taken in the second-round in 2003. As a rookie, Gordon led the Browns with 805 yards receiving and five touchdown receptions.

Practice reps are important for the young receiver as he will be banned from the facility from Sept. 2 through Sept. 16 as he serves a two-game suspension for a positive codeine test.
