Mario Williams injury: Bills star leaves training camp

Williams has a mysterious foot injury, but head coach Doug Marrone doesn’t seem too bothered by the star’s absence.

Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams isn't at training camp after leaving St. John's Fisher College on Sunday to have a mystery foot injury examined, according to Tim Graham of The Buffalo News.

Answers about the injury are apparently tough to come by, even for Bills head coach Doug Marrone, who told reporters on Monday that he first heard about the injury on Sunday after Williams was already “off-campus.” Marrone also said that he couldn’t provide details about the extent of the injury, how it occurred or which foot was injured.

Although the injury was not detected in the pre-camp physical, Marrone told Graham that he endorses Williams’ absence from the practice field:

“His foot was sore,” Marrone said. “We’re not going to make any mistakes about it. We’re going to make sure that everything’s fine. Our doctor’s are evaluating him. Where he is or where he goes, I’m not going to talk about that.”

Williams received a six-year, $96 million deal from the Bills in 2012 including another $4 million available through incentives. After a slow start to his first season with the team, Williams finished the year with a team-leading 10.5 sacks.
