Jermon Bushrod injury: Bears OT wears walking boot

Bushrod says the calf injury sustained in practice is “nothing crazy.”

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bears left tackle Jermon Bushrod is in a walking boot after sustaining a right calf injury that forced him to miss practice on Monday; however, he described the injury as "nothing crazy" and expects to return to the practice field somewhat soon, according to Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Bushrod, 28, signed a five-year deal worth $35 million with the Bears in the offseason after earning back-to-back Pro Bowl selections with the New Orleans Saints in 2011 and 2012.

The calf injury is not serious enough to warrant scheduling an MRI, Bushrod told Potash, and he is officially listed by the team as “day-to-day” as he recovers from the injury.

‘‘I didn’t want to make it any worse. I need my calf,“ he said. ‘‘So I didn’t want to push it too much. It’ll be OK.”

A fourth-round selection in the 2007 NFL Draft, Bushrod had very limited playing time with the Saints for his first two seasons, but took over for an injured Jammal Brown in 2009 and never relinquished the starting job. In the following three seasons, he started all 48 games for the Saints.
