The New York Jets might have a new starting quarterback this season, because it sounds as if Geno Smith has been impressive during the early stages of training camp. There isn't anything confirmed from the team quite yet, but ESPN New York's Rich Cimini believes Mark Sanchez is losing his grip on the starting spot.

Mark Sanchez is apparently in danger of losing his spot as starting quarterback of the New York Jets.

Cimini appeared on ESPN’s NFL Live on Wednesday and, when asked about the quarterback battle, had the following to say (via Rotoworld):
“If Mark (Sanchez) has more days like this,” Cimini said after Wednesday’s practice, “we could see a changing of the guard at QB.”
Cimini's quote makes it sound more like Sanchez is struggling more than Smith is impressing, but it's likely the plan the Jets had when they drafted the West Virginia product in the second round of this year's NFL Draft. The incumbent hasn't been all-out terrible with the Jets, but throwing 13 touchdowns and 18 interceptions en route to a 6-9 record as a starter obviously made the Jets move quicker to find his possible replacement in this year's draft.
And now, it seems, that replacement might become the starter faster than anticipated.
