Nick Foles trade rumors: Eagles not expected to move backup QB

Foles won’t be traded after losing out on the Eagles’ starting quarterback job to Michael Vick.

The Philadelphia Eagles decided that Michael Vick will be their starting quarterback when the NFL's regular season starts. That doesn't mean that the man he beat is done with his Eagles' tenure, however, as The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane reports that Nick Foles will still be in the mix.

Foles started six games for the Eagles last season, throwing six touchdowns and five interceptions while leading the Eagles to a 1-5 record. McLane reports that there was still interest around the league in the Eagles’ newly-named backup, but Foles decided to turn down the opportunity to be moved:

The Eagles have no plans to trade Nick Foles even though Michael Vick was named the team's starting quarterback on Tuesday, an NFL source said. Foles was asked if he wanted to be traded with the opportunity to start, but he said that he wanted to remain with the Eagles.

It’s likely too late in the preseason for Foles to go elsewhere and earn the starting quarterback job from the regular-season’s outset, but Vick’s past injury issues also likely played a part in Foles deciding that he’s better off remaining in Philadelphia for the time being.

Foles has completed 11 of his 14 passing attempts for 96 yards this preseason, but no touchdowns and an interception have dropped his quarterback rating to a paltry 65.5 -- the worst of the five current Eagles’ signal-callers.
