New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola will miss Thursday's preseason game against the Detroit Lions, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports. Arguably the top weapon in the passing offense for New England didn't even make the trip to the Motor City for this week's game.
Patriots WR Danny Amendola out vs. Lions
New England misses a major weapon against the Lions on Thursday night.

The Patriots have been quiet on Amendola's injury status this week, listing the wide receiver as "day-to-day" without disclosing his injury. He was signed this offseason to help soften the blow caused by losing Wes Welker, now with the Denver Broncos, but durability has been a concern for Amendola throughout his career -- he's missed 20 games over the last two years due to injury.
Traditionally the third preseason game is about establishing the regular season offense and showing more of a team's full form. The Patriots are relatively cagey, but have major offensive questions as the season draws closer without Welker, Aaron Hernandez or Rob Gronkowski (recovering from injury).
It remains to be seen how long it will take Amendola to return to action, but they need him back on the field as soon as possible.
