Jonathan Cooper injury: Cardinals G hurts left ankle, carted off field

Arizona Cardinals left guard Jonathan Cooper was carted off the field with an apparent ankle injury on Saturday.

Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper was injured on a running play against the San Diego Chargers and had to leave the game. He was limping and had to be helped off the field before being taken to the locker room on a cart, according to Robert Baum of the Associated Press.

Cooper was examined briefly on the sidelines before being taken inside. It looked like the injury was more centered on his left ankle, as noted by Will Brinson of CBS Sports. Ankle injuries can be a lot less serious than knee injuries in a lot of ways, but if it turns out to be a foot injury, there’s plenty to worry about there as well.

It looked like another player was knocked into Cooper's leg when he was trying to make a block. Cooper was in line to be the starting left guard of a Cardinals line that can ill-afford to lose any players. They were among the worst lines in football last season, a stat Cooper was supposed to remedy as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
