Willis McGahee ‘ready to roll’ in Browns’ offense, says Rob Chudzinski

Veteran running back Willis McGahee will be on the field in Week 3.

Newly acquired veteran running back Willis McGahee will be on the field for the Browns' game against the Vikings in Week 3, according to Cleveland head coach Rob Chudzinski.

While the 11-year veteran has yet to have a full week of practice with the Browns, Chudzinski believes McGahee’s experience will allow him to play right away.

“Willis is an experienced guy,” the first-year head coach said. “He’s done it before. He’s a savvy veteran. Running the ball is an instinctive thing. He’ll be ready to roll and we’re excited about that.”

Chudzinski and McGahee previously worked together at the University of Miami and the running back has been in similar offenses while in the NFL.

“Well he’s been in this offense, the terminology, he’s familiar with, when he was in Baltimore,” Chudzinski said. “So a lot of those things are the same. Just doing a little review with him [Thursday] he’s got a good handle on the offense overall.”

McGahee is coming off a season where he missed several games with a leg injury in Denver, but the former first-round pick claims to be fully-recovered.

“I had one knee problem,” McGahee said. “It was my right knee and it’s healed 100 percent. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t have passed the physical.”

McGahee has yet to be put on the Browns' official depth chart, where first-year player Bobby Rainey is the sole running back. Rainey, McGahee and Chris Ogbonnaya are expected to share carries against the Vikings.

The Browns will visit the Vikings on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
