The Packers and Bengals met in Week 3 for a high-octane back-and-worth contest, which ended in a Cincinnati win. The Bengals scored the first 14 points of the game, but the Packers answered by scoring 30 straight points as the game approached the end of the third quarter. Just before the end of the quarter, the Bengals scored a touchdown that jump-started a scoring surge that ended in 20 unanswered points. The Bengals jumped to 2-1 with a final score of 34-30, handing the Packers their second loss of the season in a messy, turnover-filled contest.
Packers vs. Bengals 2013: Cincinnati’s comeback win stuns Green Bay
Our SB Nation writers are sounding off on the Bengals win in a back-and-forth contest against the Packers in Week 3.
Josh Kirkendall of Cincy Jungle is glad to have won the game, that was full of action and intense lead changes:
Never in my life have four hours and 18 minutes featured such an emotional roller coaster during a Bengals game. Not like that. It was a sloppy, turnover-filled contest that ended with frayed nerves and a Bengals 34-30 win over the Green Bay Packers. It was the first game in which a team led by 14 points, only to face a 16-point deficit in the same game, then win the game by four points.
If we detailed the entire game, it would be a book similar to a J.R.R. Tolkien library.
Evan Western of Acme Packing Company believes the Packers have discovered some more running back depth in the loss:
The big story of the first half on offense was injuries and ineffectiveness, but the first drive of the second half put at least some of those concerns to rest. With Jermichael Finley out due to a concussion suffered in the first half and James Starks hurting a knee late in the first half, the tight ends and running backs were down to a skeleton crew. Johnathan Franklin was in at running back, and he caught a pass for seven yards and ran the ball four times for 20 yards, finishing off a solid drive with a touchdown on a run wide to the left side to put Green Bay up 23-14.
The Packers will be on bye week in Week 4, while Bengals will be on the road for an AFC North battle against the Cleveland Browns.
