NFL roundup: Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola out, Linval Joseph extension possible

New England Patriots players Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola are out for Sunday, Linval Joseph could be in line for a contract extension and more you may have missed from Saturday.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Danny Amendola will miss Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. Gronkowski and Amendola did not travel with the team on Saturday due to injuries. Gronkowski is still recovering from offseason back and forearm surgeries, but there was thought he might be close to being ready. Amendola is recovering from a groin injury.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Saturday:

Joseph may soon be extended

New York Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph may be getting a contract extension before the season is over. Joseph is playing on his rookie contract, which expire at the end of the season. Reports suggested that Joseph is highest on New York's list of players to extend, despite players like Justin Tuck and Hakeem Nicks also playing on expiring contracts.

Harvin recovery proceeding well

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin is progressing "extremely well" in his recovery from offseason hip surgery. Harvin suffered an injury early in training camp and is currently on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he cannot return to the active roster until the team has played six games. Harvin has yet to play a snap for the Seahawks as the injury was suffered early in training camp and the team acquired him this offseason.

Diehl receives clearance

New York Giants offensive tackle David Diehl received medical clearance on his surgically-repaired thumb on Saturday. He traveled with the team for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, though he is officially listed as questionable on the injury report. Diehl underwent surgery on the thumb in the preseason and has yet to play to this point. The Giants desperately need help on the offensive line, as Eli Manning has struggled with sub-par protection.

Gronkowski, Patriots disagree on status

This happened prior to the news that Gronkowski wouldn’t travel with the team on Saturday, but it is interesting to note. According to a report earlier in the day, Gronkowski and the Patriots disagreed on the star tight end’s health heading into the game. Apparently, the Patriots believed Gronkowski was ready while the tight end felt that he needed to take it slow. Interesting, regardless.
