Browns will release RB Montario Hardesty on Monday, per report

The Browns will release the former second-round pick once he’s been cleared by team doctors.

The Cleveland Browns will release running back Montario Hardesty from injured reserve on Monday, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Hardesty was placed on injured reserve prior to the start of the season after suffering a hand injury and undergoing knee surgery during training camp. The fourth-year running back was expected to compete as Trent Richardson's backup, yet the Browns continue to revamp the team under a new front office regime.

The 26-year old back was drafted in the second round in 2010 by the Browns after a breakout season at Tennessee, but was lost for the year with a torn ACL. Hardesty would return and receive limited action the next two seasons, averaging 3.5 yards per carry on 153 attempts for 537 yards and one touchdown.

The Browns traded starting running back Trent Richardson two weeks ago, and will release Hardesty once he has been cleared by team doctors.
